Sopaipillas Recipe | Receta Sopaipillas

Sopaipillas are a traditional Chilean dessert or snack.

Sopaipillas are essentially Chilean pastry puffs. They are made from zapallo which is like a squash or pumpkin.

Sopaipillas are popular during the winter time especially served warm and topped with honey.

Ingredients List:

  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 10 TBSP Butter, Melted
  • 2 Cups Pumpkin Puree
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Preparation:

In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt. Add the pumpkin puree and melted butter and keep mixing until a smooth dough forms.

On a lightly floured surface knead dough until smooth, adding a little more flour if necessary. Cover dough with a towel and allow to rest 20 minutes.

Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thick, and cut into 3" diameter circles. Poke each circle a few times with a fork to make holes and prevent rising.

Pour vegetable oil into a large, deep skillet and heat until hot, 375°F. Place several of the dough circles into hot oil; cook until lightly browned, 3 to 4 minutes.

Remove to a plate lined with paper towel to absorb excess oil.

    Serve warm.
