Cuban Sandwich Recipe | Receta Sandwich Cubano

Ironically enough, the Cuban Sandwich may not have been invented in Cuba.

Some say it was created in Key West while others say it was in fact, Havana. Regardless, it's not only Cubans who love this delicious pork, ham, swiss cheese and pickle sandwich served on Cuban bread.

Ingredients List:

  • 1 lb Pork Tenderloin
  • 3 Cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 2 TBSP Olive Oil
  • 2 TBSP Orange Juice
  • 1 TBSP Lime Juice
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin
  • 1/2 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 TBSP Light Brown Sugar
  • Salt & Pepper to Taste
  • 1 Medium Onion, Chopped
  • 4 Cuban Bread Loaf (Can Substitute French Bread)
  • Yellow Mustard
  • 4 Dill Pickles, Thinly Sliced
  • 1 lb Sliced Ham
  • 1/2 lb Swiss Cheese
  • 1 Stick Softened Unsalted Butter

Preparation:

Combine the garlic, olive oil, orange juice, lime juice, cumin, paprika, brown sugar, onion and salt and pepper in a food processor and puree until smooth. Pour over the pork tenderloin and allow to marinate for 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 450°F.

Transfer the pork tenderloin to a pan and pour the marinade over it. Cook until the pork reaches 145°F, about 25 minutes. Remove from the pan and let it rest while preparing the sandwiches. Then carve into slices.

Split bread in half. Spread softened butter on the outsides of the bread. Spread yellow mustard on the inside of each piece of bread. Layer the sandwich with ham, followed by the pickle slices, roast pork and cheese. Season with a pinch of salt and close with the top half of the bread.

Heat up a panini maker. Press the sandwiches until crispy and the cheese has melted, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a board and cut each one in half.

Serve with plantain chips.
