Buñuelos Recipe | Receta Buñuelos

Buñuelos are traditional Colombian cheese fritters. They are made with a mixture of cassava flour and cornstarch.

Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Buñuelos are very popular during the Christmas season but eaten year round with hot chocolate or Colombian coffee.

Ingredients List:

  • 1 Cup Cassava Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Cornstarch
  • 1 Cup Colombian Quesito or Feta Cheese, Grated
  • 2 TBSP Sugar
  • 1 Eggs
  • 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 TBSP Butter at Room Temperature
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 TBSP Milk
  • 3 Cups Vegetable Oil
  • Preparation:

In a big mixing bowl, add cassava flour, cornstarch, cheese, sugar, salt, baking powder, butter and egg. Mix with your hands.

Bring the dough together with milk, add 1 TBSP at a time, until soft dough is obtained.

In a deep pot, heat oil on low, 325°F.

Roll dough into balls, about 1 TBSP per ball. Fry 3 or 4 buñuelos at a time until golden brown, about 5-10 minutes.

Remove from the oil and drain on a plate lined with paper towels. Allow them to cool for a few minutes. Serve.
