Calamares Fritos is traditional Spanish fried squid. It is also goes by the name of Calamares a la Romana.
Calamares Fritos are a very popular appetizer or tapa in Spain. The calamares Fritos recipe below is very simple as it involves very few ingredients.
- 2 lbs Squid, Cleaned
- 1/2 Cup Flour
- 1 tsp Spanish Paprika
- Olive Oil for Frying
Cut the squid bodies into 1/2" rings.
Pour 1/2" of olive oil into a large frying pan. Heat on high for frying, but be careful that the oil does not smoke.
Mix the flour, paprika, salt and pepper and coat the rings in the mixture.
Add the calamari rings to the oil. Do not crowd the pan, leave enough room in the pan to turn the squid rings over.
Fry the squid for a few minutes until the rings turn golden. When done, remove the squid rings from pan and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with lemon.
